Predictions or Analyses!

I chose to tackle the article that deals with the ten predictions: “Top Ten Ed Tech Predictions for 2011” by Christopher Dawson. The article deals with a very important aspect in the world of computing and education. In spite of the fact that the article talks about predictions which are usually  not tangible in our real world, things, even if they are predictions I may say, are different when it comes to the fast pace we are witnessing in the field of technology and education alike.

The article was written in 2010 and it is talking about what could happen in 2011. Thus the predictions here are not really far from reality. The article started with an important notion in regard to technology , learners and teaching. The communication among these three aspects has to be in a form of a triangle where all the aspects are connected to each other.

The article has tackled interesting ideas in regard to learning and technology.  The main assumption that can be built from all the ten predictions is that the focus is inclining or heading towards learning and platforms more than towards the hardware, which is one of the negative traits of the educational systems in the USA. Despite fact that some of the predictions reflected some kind of lashing at the educational system in the States, the main idea was to show  that objective analysis of the learning theory will make  the shallow system a heavy one.

In the second part of the article, the author mentioned the tablets and Android . I am as a heavy user of Android and believe that it will the prediction about Android was not very accurate because it is in the process of sweeping the market in the light of the limited and restricted use of other operating systems. As for the Internet and its use among students, well most of the schools in North America are using the Internet extensively but not as part of the curriculum, so far.

The prediction about sending homework online came a bit late because that was done sometime before the article was written. All the e-learning platforms have to use this system.

The Kindle prediction is accurate in the sense that the processor Kindle is using doesn’t allow the same multi-functionality other processors offer. In the light of the relentless competition in the market one can say that Kindle is not meant to be used in institutionalized spheres.

The last prediction was a kind of promotion to the Dell products. This point makes me feel that the article is really a kind of a subjective analysis of what is in the market. I don’t feel there were predictions.
